MARION, Va. — The Tazewell Bulldogs outgained Marion 334 to 295 in total yardage, but five crucial turnovers allowed the Scarlet Hurricane to jump out to a big lead and cruise to a 40-12 Southwest District win Friday.
Hunter Lefler completed 10 of 12 passes for 208 yards to lead the Hurricane (5-1) to the win over the hard-luck Bulldogs (4-2).
Two fourth-quarter touchdwons by Tazewell, including a four-yard run by Chris Hall, and a nine-yard scoring scamper from Austin Reed were all the Bulldog points.
Malik Davis led Tazewell with 152 yards rushing, while Reed picked up 73 on four carries. Chris Hall added 63 on 15 carries for the Bulldogs.
Sam Wagner had 18 carries for 84 yards for the winning Hurricane, and scored three touchdowns, on runs of four, three and two yards.
Marion’s first four touchdowns came as a result of Tazewell turnovers, and although the Bulldogs had reasonable yardage totals, the bouncing ball proved to be the difference.
Tazewell outgained Marion 290 to 87 rushing, but the Hurricane had a 288- to 44-yard advantage passing. Blevins caught three passes for 54 yards. Chandler Dixon added 66 receiving yards and Aaron Garrison caught 65 yards in passing for the winning Scarlet Hurricane.
Tazewell travels to Richlands Friday.
