Hedinger leads Warriors past Miners

NEW RICHMOND — Christian Hedinger made his first varsity football appearance count for Wyoming East.
Hedinger scored two fourth quarter touchdowns, picked off two passes and recorded 10 tackles, leading the Warriors to a thrilling season-opening 19-16 win over Mingo Central on Friday night.
Wyoming East entered the fourth quarter trailing 8-7, but Hedinger caught a 23-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Griffith with 5:04 on the clock. He then picked off a pass and returned it 85 yards with 3:10 to secure the win.
Chris Cecil put the Warriors on the board with a 1-yard run in the first, but the Miners took the 8-7 lead at the break. Mingo Central scored late in the fourth quarter for the final margin.
Jacob Summe led the Warriors with 40 yards on 18 carries. Griffith (9-25) and Cecil (7-21) also gained yards on the ground. Griffith was 3-for-7 for 39 yards through the air. Summe had 2 catches for 16 yards.
Wyoming East (1-0) will travel for a rivalry game next Friday at Westside.
