WELCH — The streak is over.
Mount View’s 31 game losing streak came to an end on Friday night, as the Golden Knights defeated Wyoming East 18-15 at Vic Nystrom Stadium.
The start of the game was delayed by nearly 50 minutes, but it was worth the way for the Knights.
Mount View, (1-4), which hadn’t won since 2009 at Big Creek, scored on a fumble in the fourth quarter and then held off the Warriors to escape with the win.
Wyoming East took a 15-12 lead in the third quarter on a 1-yard run by Chris Cecil. Mount View drove down the field, but had a pass picked off on a 4th and 15 at the Warriors’ 1-yard line.
On the next play the Warriors fumbled and Tim Nowlin recovered in the end zone to give Mount View the lead that would hold up to the end.
Wyoming East did drive the ball to the Mount View 6-yard line, but another fumble was recovered by LaQuell Martin at the 2. The Knights ran out the clock to secure the long-awaited win.
Mount View took a 12-8 lead into the break on a 4-yard scoring run by Teddy Hazzard and 11-yard scoring pass from Hazzard to Maurice Brown.
Wyoming East (3-2) had scored twice in the first on a safety and a 1-yard run by Jacob Summe.
Mount View will try to make it two in a row next Friday by hosting Van.
