GARDNER — Ty Hoston scored on a touchdown run in overtime, and Jason Worley made a game-saving tackle on a two-point conversion, leading PikeView to a remarkable 42-41 season-opening win over Summers County on Friday night.
PikeView (1-0) trailed Summers County 28-6 after one quarter and 35-21 after three periods, but the Panthers rallied for 14 points to force overtime, and then won the game in the extra period.
PikeView ran up 280 yards on the ground, led by Danny Brown, who had around 150 yards and scored three touchdowns, one on a 70-yard run. Joe Jennings ran for another 130 yards and two more scores, one of which came from 30 yards.
Dillon Smith scored five touchdowns for Summers County, while quarterback Nathan Grimmett added one. He also threw for 240 yards.
PikeView took the ball first on offense and scored on a 15-yard touchdown run, and Alec White followed with the extra points.
Summers County answered with a touchdown by Smith, but Grimmitt was stopped by Worley on the two-point conversion attempt.
PikeView will visit Independence next week, while Summers County will host Liberty.
