PEARISBURG, Va. — Brett Whitlow averaged more than 10 yards per carry, scoring on a 49-yard run and kicking six extra points as the undefeated Giles Spartans dominated Floyd County 42-8 on Friday night at the Giles County seat.
The Spartans (9-0), the top team in Group 2A-West, ran up 306 total yards, 278 on the ground, compared to 201 yards for the Floyd County (2-7). Giles also picked off three interceptions.
John Teats opened the scoring with a 44-yard dash less than a minute into the contest. Brian Mann scored twice on runs and threw for Giles’ final score, a 19-yard pass to Dakoda Shrader. Tyler Perdue also ran to paydirt for the Spartans.
Giles concludes the regular season next Friday at Glenvar.
