Cougars rally past Bobcats

COVINGTON, Va. — Covington overcame a nine-point halftime deficit, scoring 16 points after the break to send the Bobcats to their first loss of the season.
Summers County quarterback Matt Ryan completed a pass in the end zone to Erik Lindsey with seconds left on the clock, but the play was called back due to an illegal motion call.
T.J. Smith scored twice for the Bobcats on first half scoring passes of 17 and 30 yards.
Covington (4-1) narrowed a 10-0 deficit on a 5-yard scoring run by Brandon Phillips, but still trailed 16-7 at the break.
The Cougars began the comeback with a 43-yard field goal by Jonathan Elmore in the third quarter.
They scored twice in the final period on a 25 yard scoring pass from Luke Moye to Raquann Matthews and a 85-yard interception return for a touchdown by Trevor Jack.
Smith led the Bobcats with 53 yards rushing, while Isaiah Brown had seven receptions for 63 yards. Smith and Lindsey had interceptions for Summers County.
Summers County (5-1), which was ranked second in the Class AA state ratings, will host Independence on Friday.
