SPRING VALLEY — Tyler Brown threw for two touchdowns and ran for a third to help Spring Valley defeat Princeton 35-13 Friday night at the Wolves Den.
Princeton drew first blood, putting together a game-opening 68-yard drive. Tahj Sho-Johnson bolted up the middle for 29 yards and Jay Palmer closed the drive with a 5-yard touchdown run.
Spring Valley answered quickly. West Virginia University recruit Elijah Wellman began a 62-yard drive with a 22-yard run and wingback Ryan George found paydirt from a yard out with 5 minutes left in the first quarter.
The Tigers blocked the extra point attempt and Princeton held a 7-6 lead at the end of one period.
Wellman’s 1-yard run capped a 64 yard second quarter drive and gave Spring Valley a lead it would not relinquish. After Wellman’s two-point PAT Run the Timberwolves led 14-17 at the 11:16 mark of the half.
The backbreaker was a 23-yard Brown to Wellman touchdown pass that converted a fourth down and 16 situation for Spring Valley with 4:30 remaining in the left.
Princeton responded, though, driving from their own 25 to the Spring Valley 2 before an interception killed the drive.
In the third quarter Spring Valley dominated time of possession. The T-Wolves opened with a 15-play, 90-yard drive that ended with Brown’s 17-yard scoring pass to Tyler Robertson.
Midway through the fourth quarter Brown dialed his own number, scoring from 12 yards out at the 5:49 mark.
On the ensuing possession Palmer sprinted through the Spring Valley defense on a 59-yard option keeper to close the scoring.
The Tigers dropped to 1-6 and will travel to Cabell Midland on Friday.
