Mount View vs Tug Valley, see story below

WELCH — The Tug Valley Panthers used a strong defense and an opportunistic offense to score three unanswered touchdowns in the second half for a 26-14 win over Mount View at Vic Nystrom Stadium Friday night.
The Mingo Countians got on the board early, taking a 6-0 lead with 7:17 left in the inaugural frame on a six-yard Aaron Muncey run off right guard.
That score was set up by a Mikey Newsome pass interception, one of four picks on the evening by the visitors.
The Golden Knights tied the score at 6 at the 9:49 mark of the second stanza on a Teddy Hazzard one-yard keeper.
That TD brought to fruition an 18-play, 71-yard march that spanned the opening two periods.
The Panthers defense held to open the second half and took control following a Golden Knight punt at the Tug Valley 44.
Seven plays later, Newsome passed to a wide-open Muncey in the right corner of the end zone to take the lead for keeps at 12-6 with 8:06 left in the third.
A bad snap on a View punt try late in the third quarter gave Tug Valley the pigskin at the Golden Knight 33.
On the sixth play of that possession, Matt Barker went up the middle for a 5 yard touchdown at the 1:53 mark of the third, extending the lead to 18-6.
With 10:09 remaining in the contest, Barker intercepted a Knight pass and returned it seven yards for a final TD. Chucky White passed to Corey Dillon for the extra points and a 26-6 lead.
Mount View embarked on a 10-play, 66-yard drive that added points to the board, but proved to be too little, too late.
Sophomore Laquell Martin took a handoff, raced to his right and then cut back to his left for a 10-yard score with 1:35 left. The Golden Knights, who had rolled up 141 yards total offense in the first half, were held to only 41 in the final 24 minutes by a revamped Panther defense.
Explained interim head coach Tyler Hodge, “We went in at halftime and made some adjustments. We moved some guys around. We did a nice job in the second half defensively.”
Of his club’s offense, Hodge continued, “We moved the ball all over the field. Overall we played well.”
Golden Knight head coach Leon Gravely saw the contrasted halves as a lack of consistency. “I think it’s a matter of being consistent,” he said. “We were very inconsistent tonight in the second half.”
Tug Valley, now 2-1, visits Twin Valley next Friday, while the Golden Knights (0-3) will travel to Liberty Raleigh.
