Ryan sets school record for rushing yards

HINTON — Matt Ryan rushed for a Summers County single game school record Friday, leading the Class AA No. 11 Bobcats to victory.
Greg Shrewsbury put the Bobcats up early with two first half touchdown runs (1, 7) and Ryan found Nathan Grimmett on a 15-yard touchdown pass for a 21-7 halftime lead.
West would not go easily as Derek Coryell scored his second touchdown of the night (1, 5) to close the gap to 21-13 in the third quarter.
But, the fourth quarter was all Ryan as he scored on a 56-yard run and a 97-yard run to seal the win for the Bobcats.
Ryan finished the night with 281 yards on 19 carries, breaking the school record held by Scott Jackson in the 1995 season.
Summers County (4-1) travels to Webster County Friday to battle the Highlanders. Greenbrier West fell to 1-4.
