FAIRLEA — After a scoreless first half, Greenbrier East’s Michael McCormick returned a Princeton punt 68 yards to give Greenbrier East a lead it never surrendered, and the Spartans beat Princeton 14-0 at Fairlea Friday night.
Princeton had a couple of red-zone opportunities in the second quarter after Greenbrier East punt-team mistakes, but the Tigers were unable to score and Greenbrier got things going after the half.
McCormick’s touchdown punt return up the left sideline sparked the Greenbrier East offense and tailback Dan Allen rushed for 56 yards in the quarter. His 29-yard touchdown run with 2:13 left in the period wrapped up the scoring.
Princeton’s attack was limited to six yards rushing on 23 attempts, 1 of 10 passing and the Tigers committed three turnovers.
Princeton finished the season 3-7. Greenbrier East is 4-5. Greenbrier East completes its regular season next week at home, playing James Monroe.
