MONTCALM — The Montcalm Generals recorded the second best record in program history, finishing off a nine-game season with a 5-4 record with a 69-12 beating of Hannan on Saturday at Prudich Stadium.
Montcalm (5-4), whose best season was an 8-2 mark in 2005, led 28-0 after the first quarter and 48-0 at halftime.
“It feels good and the boys are happy,” Montcalm head coach Jimmy Redmond said. “That is the most important thing, that they were happy.”
No wonder. Sixty-nine points is reason to smile, and so is a winning record.
Jason Grose led the Generals with 85 yards rushing and two touchdowns on just nine carries, while Marcus Bailey had 93 yards and a score on six attempts, and also scored on a touchdown pass by Aaron Presley.
Presley was 3-of-5 for 36 yards passing and the scoring toss to Bailey, and also ran for 40 yards and three more touchdowns.
Other Montcalm ballcarriers included Ryan Absher (7-60), Travis Duncan (3-54), Dakota Lanter (1-35), Colton Egnor (10-26), Travis Pointer (3-14) and Charles Myers (2-5).
Lanter and Duncan each had touchdown runs, while Absher returned a punt 65 yards for another score. Bailey also kicked three extra points, while Grose, Absher and Myers had two-point conversion runs.
Montcalm will lose five seniors, including Presley, Bailey, Myers, Jimmy Lowe and Josh Clower, but Generals’ head coach Jimmy Redmond is excited about the future.
“We are going to keep building,” said Redmond, whose Generals will have 10 games next season, including six at home. Montcalm played just three games at Prudich Stadium this year.
A 10th game had been scheduled for this season, but Ervinton closed its doors last summer.
