Standifur leads Tigers past Buccaneers

BUCKHANNON — The Princeton running game roared to life Friday night, averaging 6.1 yards per carry, as the Tigers shut out the Buccaneers of Buckhannon-Upshur High School 21-0.
Zach Stanifur’s fine season continued with 156 yards rushing on 21 carries. He broke a scoreless tie with 2:39 left before halftime with a 7-yard scoring run, and increased the Tigers’ lead with a 50-yard ramble to the end zone with 9:58 on the clock in the third period.
Kevin Phillips ran 21 yards for the game’s final touchdown, six seconds into the final period. Phillips had 72 yards on seven carries. Jacob Whittington added the extra point kicks on all three scores.
Isaiah Edwards paced the Princeton defesne with eight solo tackles and three assists. He was credited with 2 1/2 tackles for loss, combining with Cole Cochran for a sack. Jared Hamm had five solo stops and four assists.
The Tigers gained 285 total yards, earning 12 first downs, and limited their hosts to 122 yards and seven first downs.
Princeton (3-2) will play next Friday night at Liberty High in Raleigh County. The loss dropped the Buccaneers to 1-3.
