PEARISBURG, Va. — Brian Mann ran for 185 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for another score, leading Giles to a rare Monday night victory over Galax, a 35-24 decision over the Maroon Tide.
Charles Harris led Galax (1-4) with 176 yards on 30 carries and two scoring runs of four yards apiece. Carson Orton also ran in a touchdown from 6 yards, and completed a 6-yard scoring pass to Caleb Spurlin.
Giles (5-0) rarely had the ball, but had big plays after the break to pull away from a 7-6 halftime lead, which came on the final play of the half on a 6-yard touchdown pass from Mann to Patrick Beidleman.
Beidleman sparked a 21-point third quarter with a 71-yard punt return. Galax then fumbled the ensuing kickoff, and Giles recovered, with Mann dashing 52 yards for another score, and later added a 15 yard to paydirt.
Giles, which has won 33 straight regular season games, travel to defending 2A state champion Glenvar on Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
