Big plays by Hamm, Standifur lead Tigers

GLEN DANIEL — Princeton rode big plays by Jared Hamm and Zach Standifur to a 22-16 victory over Liberty on Friday night.
Hamm's 78-yard kickoff return to open the second half broke an 8-8 deadlock. Standifur, Princeton's top running back, broke a 92-yard TD run with 9:50 left in the game to ice the game.
Host Liberty (4-2) opened the scoring on a 22-yard touchdown pass from Hunter Wright to Deonté Acord just over two minutes into the game. Christian Whittaker added the PAT run.
The likewise 4-2 Tigers returned the favor late in the quarter when Phillip Jones barreled 8 yards through the Raiders' line for a touchdown. Jones ran the PAT and had another following Standifur's touchdown.
Whittaker gave Liberty a final touchdown on a 3-yard scamper in the fourth. Wright scored the PAT on a keeper.
Standifur led the Tigers' ground game with 172 yards on 15 carries. Jones was good for 89 yards on 14 tries with the ball. Standifur has now run for 728 yards in his last four games.
Garrison Hartwell paced the defense with seven solo tackles. Cole Cochran had six.
Wright completed 11 of 28 passes for 123 yards. Whittaker chipped in 87 yards on 20 carries for the Raiders.
Both teams will be off next week. Princeton (4-2) will play at James Monroe on Oct. 16, while Liberty will host Independence the same night.
