LINDSIDE — It was a defensive showdown between James Monroe and Summers County Friday night.
The Mavericks and Bobcats combined for only 18 first downs and 299 yards of offense, but in the end, Jesse Howdershelt’s 18-yard run in the second quarter propelled Summers County to an 8-0 victory.
Isaiah Brown capped off the score with a two-point conversion pass to Jay Morey.
James Monroe (1-1) had trouble moving the ball night finishing with 154 yards of offense including 82 on the ground. The Mavericks first first down came late in the second quarter.
The James Monroe defense was stout allowing only the one score and limiting the Bobcats to 145 yards of offense.
However, the big difference was the Maverick passing attack which was 5 of 18 for 72 yards and three interceptions.
James Monroe will look to rebound Friday when they host Glenvar at 7:30 p.m. Summers County visits Shady Spring.
