Nothing charming about West for Summers County

CHARMCO — Coming on the heels of a six-turnover upset against Buffalo last week, the Greenbrier West offense was determined to get back on track. It used a disciplined option attack to roll up nearly 500 yards on the ground en route a 42-6 dismantling of visiting Summer County.
The Cavaliers scored on each of their first two possessions. Malik Boatwright and Tyler Parker took turns carrying the ball, as the West offense marched down the field for drives of 61 and 65 to put the home team up 16-0 barely eight minutes into the game.
Summers County’s lone bright spot on the evening was a scoring drive early in the second quarter. Following a Boatwright fumble, the Bobcats were aided by two West personal foul penalties. On fourth down, T.J. Smith scrambled and found Eric Lindsey open on the goal line.
After that, the Cavalier defense took full control of the game. The West defensive line, led by Aaron Winals, constantly created havoc in the Summers County backfield, as the Bobcats spent the vast majority of the game on their own end of the field. Explosive running back Isaiah Brown was held in check most of the night by a ball-pursuing West defense.
Greenbrier West improved to 4-1 and will take on PikeView in next week, while Summers County (3-2) returns home for game against Covington, Va.
