CHARLESTON — Capital quarterback Tyhree Pratt passed for three touchdowns and ran for one, leading the Cougars to a 49-7 win over Princeton Friday night.
Pratt, a freshman, threw for 146 yards as the Cougars jumped to an early lead and never looked back.
On Princeton’s first possession, the Tigers when three-and-out and gave up the safety. When punch snap sailed over Austin Smith’s head and out of the end zone.
On the ensuing free kick Capital’s Rashad Cunningham returned it 35 yards for a touchdown and Capital quickly led 8-0.
A Pratt one-yard TD run and Kashaun Haley scoring run gave the Cougars a comfortable 22-0 lead after one period. They expanded the margin to take a 35-0 lead to the locker room at halftime.
Princeton put together a late 17-play, 96-yard drive, and freshman Jordan Jones scored from three yards out to offset a pair of Capital TDs.
“Capital’s got a whole lot of speed, and they’re young,’’ said Randy Peek, Princeton’s first-year coach. “That’s what we’re trying to build at Princeton — a football program, and it’s going to take a while.
“We’re knocked down right now and the kids are injured and we’re playing a little soft. We showed a little more heart on defense tonight than we have, but we couldn’t move the ball tonight because of [Capital’s] size and speed.’’
Princeton, 0-4, entertains George Washington Friday night.
