Huge first quarter dooms Bears

GLADE SPRING, Va. — Patrick Henry wasted no time jumping the Bears, scoring 34 first quarter points to hammer the Bland County Bears 41-6 in the season-opener for both teams.
Merritt Mullins returned an interception 46 yards for a score and also ran the football in from 45 yards for the Rebels in the first period.
Lucas Rector also snagged a pass from Caleb Sayler and dashed 51 yards for a touchdown to open the game.
Dylan Walker scored the lone points for the Bears on a 3-yard scoring run in the fourth.
Bland County was held to 80 yards on offense by Patrick Henry.
The Bears (0-1) travel to Rural Retreat on Friday.
