LINDSIDE — Five different Princeton backs combined for 573 yards on just 20 carries, as Princeton pounded James Monroe 69-34 to keep its hopes alive for a Class AAA playoff berth.
The clubs combined for 47 first quarter points, with 35 of them scored by the Tigers.
Tahj Sho-Johnson led the Tigers with 181 yards and two touchdowns on five carries. Other Princeton backs included Jordan Jones (3-132, 2 td), Jay Palmer (5-97, 2 td), Aaron Saunders (3-85, 1 td) and Devin Allen (4-78, 1 td).
Palmer also threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Allen.
Princeton had six touchdown runs that went for more than 36 yards. Je’nye Hearn added an 8-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter.
Sho-Johnson scored from 57 and 80 yards, while Jones ran 36 and 76 yards for touchdowns. Palmer scored from 46 and 19 yards. Saunders also scored once from 15 yards.
James Monroe, which led 12-7 in the first quarter after an 83-yard kick return by Matt Elmore and a 49-yard fumble recovery from Parker King, was led by Logan Hunnicutt with 38 yards on the ground.
Josh Dransfield caught five passes from Reed McNeer for 64 yards.
McNeer ran for touchdowns of 3 and 40 yards, and also threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Brian Young.
Princeton improved to 6-4 and will wait on their playoff fate, while the Mavericks finished their first season under head coach John Mustain with a 3-7 record.
