Allen’s debut ends in defeat for Tazewell

WYTHEVILLE, Va. — Trey Skeens piled up 114 rushing yards, Alex Willis passed for 116 more and a touchdown, while Isaac Baltazaar caught four passes for 76 yards and a score to lead George Wythe to a 42-0 non-district win over Tazewell Friday.
Dominique Crockett scored twice more for the Maroons on runs of 11 and 3 yards.
With three touchdowns in each of the first three quarters, the balance George Wythe attack featured 10 different runners against the youthful Bulldogs.
Coach Shane Allen’s Bulldogs’ defense came up solid on several plays, despite plagued by field position disadvantage for much of the night.
Crockett raced 11 yards to the left corner of the end zone to cap a 6-play, 59-yard drive that put the Maroons in front 7-0 when Andrew Storms kicked the first of his six extra point kicks with 10:14 to go in the first quarter.
Skeens raced in from 48 yards away with :04 left in the opening period and Storms again kicked the PAT. Crockett added his second touchdown at the 6:20 mark of the first half on a 3-yard run and Storms kicked another extra point to build the lead to 21-0.
Willis orchestrated the drive with successive passes of 16 yards to Hardy Lester and 19 yards to Baltazaar, plus a 7-yard scamper of his own. Jalen France went in from 4 yards out with the 3:40 remaining in the half. Storms again converted the extra point.
Neal Pressley recovered a fumble for George Wythe and Tyrone Austin scored from 28 yards out on the next play with a 11:01 to go in the third stanza as the Maroons grabbed a 35-0 advantage.
Willis fired a 12-yard strike to Baltazaar, who caught the scoring pass on his knees with 3:37 left as the Maroons went up 42-0.
Defensively, Jordan Atwood had a solid defensive game for the Maroons.
Tazewell’s defense was led by Nick Goad, Cody McCann and Guye Turner, among others.
Malik Davis led the Bulldogs with 36 yards rushing and 39 yards receiving. Jacob McReynolds added 30 yards on the ground for Tazewell.
George Wythe out-rushed the Bulldogs 278-73 and led in passing yards 117-39 for an overall total of 394 yards as Tazewell picked up 112.
Tazewell will host the Graham G-Men Friday at 7:30 p.m.
