HILLSVILLE, Va. — As cold weather settles into the Southwest District, the hard-luck Tazewell Bulldogs (0-7, 0-1) hope to warm up with their first win of the season against struggling Carroll County (1-6, 1-1).

Coach Brandon Tate’s youthful Bulldogs visit Tommy Thompson Field with a revamped offensive lineup following several roster changes this week.

Nick Goad will start his first game at center, flanked by guards Jarrett Jessee and Deon Davis. Brad Bowles and Jody Smith are slated to open at guard.

Sophomore Carter Rasnick is the Tazewell quarterback, with fellow 10th-grader Jarred Ball at halfback in front of fullback Kyle Sheets. Jessee Mountain, a freshman, will line up at wide receiver along with Juwan Jordan. Senior Ryan Hankins is the tight end.

“We are real pleased with the attitude and effort displayed by these young men,” Tate said. “They have stepped up to represent the Bulldogs and Tazewell High.

“Our coaching staff and entire team are working hard to get our first win this week against a Carroll County team that we know will be prepared.”

Carroll County hammered Tazewell 50-13 at Bulldog Stadium last season.

The Cavaliers opened this season with a 14-7 loss to Bassett, and continued to struggle in losses to Mount Airy (21-6), No. 1 (Group AA) Christiansburg (52-13), No. 1 (Group A) Grayson County 26-19, Martinsville (18-14) and 48-23 to Richlands last week.

Brooks Hash raced 80 yards for one score and Patrick

Davis caught an 80-yard touchdown pass from Connor Lundy for the eventual game winner.

Tazewell fell 37-10 last week to Marion. Andrew Murray drilled a 42-yard first half field goal and Hankins caught an 11-yard touchdown pass for his first scoring catch of the season. Murray also had three punts of more than 45 yards for the Bulldogs in the district loss.Carroll County with 98 points scored, is averaging 7 points per game. The Cavaliers have allowed 182 points overall, yielding 26 points per contest.
