PRINCETON — An early turnover put Princeton into a scoring hole, and second-half turnovers prevented the Tigers from getting redemption against the Spring Valley Timberwolves on Friday evening at Anne S. Hunnicutt Stadium.

Princeton (2-3) dropped its first home game of the season, as the visitors left town with a 21-14 victory.

“We fumbled on the first play from scrimmage, and they took it and scored,” said Princeton coach Randy Peek. “We didn’t play the first half. ... We were able to come back in the second half and make it a ballgame.”

“But we had two turnovers, one interception and one fumble. We just can’t do that. It kills us.”

Jay Palmer led Princeton with 104 yards on the ground and a touchdown, and added 75 through the air. Tahj Sho-Johnson was held to 44 yards and a score with 6:06 left in the game to narrow the margin to 21-14.

Princeton led 7-6 in the second quarter before the Timberwolves scored twice prior to halftime.

Spring Valley (3-2) had 311 yards on the ground, led by Logan Wilcox with 191 yards and two scores, and Wilcox also caught a touchdown pass from Edward Mathis to put the Timberwolves up 21-7 at the break. Mathis also ran for 106 yards.

Nick Wood led Princeton with 10 tackles, while Aaron Saunders added six.

Princeton remains home to take on George Washington, rated second in Class AAA, next Friday night.
