PRINCETON — Princeton closed out its 2012 football season in successful fashion, upending Greenbrier East 22-17 on Senior Night at Hunnicutt Stadium on Friday night.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Tigers’ Tahj Sho-Johnson scurried around the right end on a 23-yard touchdown run with 4:45 left in the half. That capped an 8-play, 88-yard drive. Princeton misfired on a 2-point conversion attempt.

Greenbrier East answered quickly. The Spartans’ Cole McClain took the ensuing kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown. Sean Myles drilled the extra point and the Spartans led 7-6 with five minutes left in the half.

Johnson put the Tigers ahead for good with a 55-yard scoring run in Princeton’s next possession. The 2-point conversion effort was again unsuccessful.

Greenbrier East (2-7) cut its deficit to two points, 12-10, with 1:40 left in the half when Myles nailed a field goal from 37 yards away. The Tigers restored the lead to five with 18 seconds left in the half on a 38-yard Austin Smith field goal. That scored followed a 44-yard pass from Jay Palmer to Lamont Lee.

After intermission, the Tigers put together a 66-yard drive with Palmer finishing it off on a 2-yard scoring run. Princeton led 22-10 after three periods. Greenbrier East closed the scoring with 1:24 left in the game on a 33-yard pass to Ethan Johnson from Kanen Reynolds.

The Tigers (2-8) took a knee to run out the clock to celebrate their second win of the season in Randy Peek’s first season as head coach at Princeton.
